About this program

In 1964, President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed into law the Economic Opportunity Act, creating Community Action Agencies across the United States to fight a "War on Poverty". The following year, a group of residents from Skamania and Klickitat Counties formed a committee for the purpose of developing a 'Community Action Agency'. Serving both counties since 1966, Washington Gorge Action Programs is that agency. WGAP is a multipurpose human service organization dedicated to helping individuals, families, and communities address basic human needs. WGAP helps people of all ages and from all walks of life. Most of the programs we operate are for low income or moderate income households as measured by federal income guidelines. Some of our clients need assistance one time to get over a rough spot, others may need ongoing help to reach their goals of self-sufficiency and independence.
