Town of Piermont Welfare

Town welfare was established per RSA 165 to temporarily fill the demand of those who are unable to provide for their basic needs until something else happens such as employment, state aid, Social Security, etc. Financial aid could be provided for such things as food, shelter, rent, mortgage payments, heat, light, gas, water, necessary clothing, diapers, transportation or prescriptions. Basic telephone service may be helped if necessary for health and safety purposes. Cellular service will not be considered. It is not intended to subsidize rent to those who are living beyond their means. If the town is able to provide such financial assistance reimbursement is expected (when it would not constitute a hardship to the client). A lien could be placed upon your property for the amount of assistance given – repayment would then remove the said lien. The process requires that a written application be completed, an interview held, together with a financial review requiring supporting documentation with verification. It is the responsibility of the client to make an application every time that assistance is required and to supply such documentation with every application. It is the Welfare Administrator who performs these duties under the supervision of the Board of Selectmen. Emergency aid will be made as soon as possible after the application has been completed, provided it is approved and all criteria are met. Payments will be made directly to the vendor and not to the applicant. Every applicant will be treated with respect, dignity and in total confidentiality.
