Town of Hampden - General Assistance

The Town of Hampden administers a program of general assistance available to all persons who are eligible to receive assistance in accordance with the standards of eligibility as provided herein and in 22 M.R.S.A ss 4301 et sep. Every effort will be made to recognize the dignity of the applicant and to encourage self-respect and selfreliance. The program will help each person achieve self-maintenance and will encourage the work incentive. When possible, it will seek to alleviate needs other than financial through rehabilitative, preventive and protective services.

Assistance for basic necessities: Food, clothing, shelter, fuel, electricity, nonelective medical services as recommended by a physician, non-prescription drugs, telephone where it is necessary for medical reasons, property taxes when a tax lien placed on the property threatens the loss of the applicant's place of residence, and any other commodity or service determined essential by the municipality
