About this program

General Assistance is a locally administered welfare program providing financial assistance to persons who are not eligible for any other state or federal assistance and do not have income or resources to provide for their basic needs. Basic needs may include shelter, food, household supplies, utilities, personal essentials, medical and other expenses deemed essential to the health and well-being of the family or individual. Persons may apply at our township office. Those potentially eligible for services at other agencies may be referred to a more appropriate agency suited to meet their needs. Agency referrals may include the following: The Social Security Administration, Illinois Department of Public Aid, Family Service and Mental Health Clinics, and many others. By state statute, township government is responsible for the administration of public aid programs such as General Assistance.
