About this program

The Westport Temple Corps opened in August of 1973, and was the product of two Kansas City corps which had been in existence for many years. The corps had originally opened in the old market area of Kansas City, and from there occupied several locations until 1929 when the building at 1319 Broadway became the center of the Army’s activity in Kansas City. In 1973, The Salvation Army property was purchased to make way for the new H. Roe Bartle Exhibition Center. At that time, The Salvation Army Temple Corps moved to 500 W. 39th Street to combine with the Westport Corps for expansion of services in that neighborhood. Shortly after the merger, the day care center was opened in November of 1973. We provide rent, utility and some medical assistance to low income households who qualify, in order to promote stability and self-sufficiency to individuals and families when they need help the most. The Westport Corps serves the following zip codes: 64109, 66110, 64111, 64112, 64113, 64114 (North of 95th St.), 64131 (North of 95th St.) and 64132.
