About this program

The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in England by William Booth, and his ministry as been spreading throughout the world ever since. The Salvation Army arrived in Salem, OR in 1886. For over 125 years we have been feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and helping the disenfranchised, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with shelter, food, and other basic needs. The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. We believe in meeting the needs of the whole person; including the physical, emotional, and spiritual. In 2012, The Salvation Army in Marion/Polk County served 44,441 meals, sheltered 345 individuals, distributed 6,747 emergency food boxes, and distributed 19,151 toys to 5,555 local children in need.
