The Salvation Army Joplin

The Salvation Army provides life-changing programs and opportunities for adults and children alike every day. We believe these programs are the key to a healthy society. We are hard at work building a stronger community, striving to give everyone in need a hand up, not a hand out, by providing resources that will help them be self-sufficient. The Salvation Army is the single largest provider of social services of its kind in the United States. The Joplin Salvation Army served more than 70,000 meals in 2012 through the daily feeding program. Our current transitional housing unit supports 32 people and the waiting list to get in is long. It is imperative that we provide more transitional housing as soon as possible. That's why the Village of Hope is so important. When the Village of Hope is complete, we will be able to provide transitional housing for dozens of families at a time. The Salvation Army is working to help individuals and families affected by unemployment, mental health issues, domestic violence, and substance abuse issues. Emergency shelter and transitional housing units are in place to meet the needs of homeless families and individuals. In addition to meeting the most critical needs of shelter, clothing, and food, The Salvation Army provides programming such as job skills training, budgeting, and parenting classes that help these individuals make a permanent change in their lives.
