About this program

The Northeast Community Fund was established in 1969 with its original name being St. John’s Northeast Community Fund. It was founded by St. John’s Lutheran Church and three local businesses (Wagner Castings, CB&Q Foundries, and Superior Welding). The Northeast Community Fund was started to reach out and assist those families in the “old” neighborhood around Jasper and Orchard Streets. However it soon started serving families throughout the community. The first home for The Northeast Community Fund was a house located at 1119 E Condit St. which served as a residence for workers, office, and supply house. Later The Northeast Community Fund moved to a house at 1128 E Orchard St. (the house between the old school and the church). After the school was sold, The Northeast Community Fund moved to its present location at 825 N. Water Street. This has proven to be a very good location to meet the needs of families in our community. Over the last 41 years The Northeast Community Fund has helped to meet the needs of thousands and thousands of families in our community. The foresight of St. John’s Lutheran Church to start the total ministry of The Northeast Community Fund and support it over the years has been a tremendous blessing to families in need in our community.
