Lynn Economic Opportunity, Inc. (LEO), an agency that has been in existence since 1965, believes that it’s mission as the Lynn area’s anti-poverty agency is to alleviate the immediate effects of poverty in the Lynn area while striving to eliminate its root causes, and thereby improve the quality if life for all residents of the Lynn area. Consistent with the national mission of community action, as expressed in the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964, LEO’s purpose is to stimulate the commitment of public and private resources toward the goal of enabling low-income families and individuals to become self-sufficient. LEO recognizes the necessity of addressing the political and social, as well as economic basis of poverty.
