About this program

Qualified Sanford/Springvale residents are eligible to receive help with basic necessities such as food, rent, utilities, fuel oil etc., as defined by local ordinance and state statute, M.R.S.A. 22, part 5, Chapter 1161. The General Assistance Program is a State mandated, municipally administered assistance program. It is designed to be the program of "last resort". Assistance is provided by voucher. Workfare and job search is a condition of eligibility for employable individuals.
