ACTION, Inc. - OGLETHORPE COUNTY

Area Committee To Improve Opportunities Now (ACTION), Inc. is a Community Action Partnership Agency which has roots dating back to the 1960's. Envisioned by President John F. Kennedy and furthered by President Lyndon B. Johnson, the mission to end poverty began through the development of the Community Services Block Grant. Poverty continued to grow despite many human services development programs over the decades. ACTION, Inc. has a dedicated focus to attack poverty by offering a hands-up approach and by partnering with individuals, both for the short term and the long term, to strategically identify ways in which they can achieve their fullest potential in order to support themselves and their families. Throughout our ten counties, our offices provide many services that lend a helping hand. Each county has a dedicated staff member who is available to assist those who have experienced a hardship in their lives by assessing both the need and the solution to getting them past the current situation. Often times the immediate situation is too insurmountable to focus on longer-range goals in their lives. This is where ACTION, Inc. can help. Our services may include emergency food assistance, and help with rent, mortgage, and energy expenses as a result of an unforeseen hardship. We have also taken an expanded role in strategic life planning with individuals and families and are breaking the poverty cycle by helping those who want to help themselves.
